This course covers the core skills used in engraving, with a larger focus on inlay than traditional metal engraving classes. Students will work on a variety of different metal practice plates as well as the class project piece in order to develop control, consistency, and tool handling techniques. This class will also provide hands-on practice and instruction in American-style scrolls, design transfer techniques, knife workholding methods, and gold wire inlay.
Participants will learn how to set up and use the tools, prepare gravers, execute foundational cuts, and apply techniques consistently and effectively. This course is intended for engravers who have experience engraving and know proper tool sharpening.
