This course provides an introduction to the core skills used in bright cut engraving with GRS equipment. Students will work in a variety of metals using different designs on practice plates to develop control, consistency, and tool handling techniques. They will study and execute scrolls, flowers, and leaves that form the timeless style of bright cut engraving. The class covers the essential techniques used on trophy belt buckles, saddle and tack trim, bits and spurs, and Western jewelry. Artists outside of the Western style may find techniques in this class helpful. Jewelers can apply the bright cutting techniques to embellish jewelry with decorative cuts. Knife makers and other single-point engravers have used bright cutting techniques as a basis to learn flare cutting. Participants will learn how to set up and use the tools, prepare gravers, execute foundational cuts, and apply techniques consistently and effectively. This course is intended for first-time engravers, jewelers, or those preparing for more advanced training. Course content may vary slightly depending on the instructor.
