Ken Hunt

Bio

Ken Hunt taught students English scrollwork during the 2007 Grand Masters Program, emphasizing the fundamentals of design and function. He also shared his methods for gold inlay and damascene, including techniques for using precious metals economically without detriment to quality.

Ken was born in Paddington, London, and at age 15, started to engrave fine English guns. He worked for James Purdey and Sons as an apprentice under the late Harry Kell in 1950. Ken began experimenting with new techniques such as acid etching and damascening inlays to produce bespoke art pieces, distancing himself from the production line.
For over 60 years, he perfected his style, creating stunning game scenes, animal portraits, and iconic scrollwork. Demand for his work caused Holland and Holland, John Rigby & Co, James Purdey and Sons, Westley Richards, and other fine English gun makers to commission him to engrave their guns. Ken Hunt’s engraved guns remain highly sought after at auction since his retirement in 2009. His artwork is in high demand at renowned auction houses.
Ken still enjoys drawing and painting daily.
