A true embodiment of the American dream, Bob Finlay grew up in rural Kansas. He put himself through Pre-Engineering and Machine Design in college by working as a meat cutter.

Finlay continued in the mechanical field during this time and even designed, built, and piloted a world-record-holding dragster. He also started his own business creating archery equipment. In 1980, the late Don Glaser introduced Finlay to metal engraving. Students who visit the GRS Training Center have the privilege of viewing some of Bob’s extraordinary deep relief work on guns, knives, battle axes, and American nickels.
